Warhammer Ancient Battles: Ancient Rome Centurion & Auxiliary Command group

Witajcie!

Znaki te odgrywały wielką rolę praktyczną i symboliczną, umożliwiały łatwiejsze utrzymanie łączności pomiędzy oddziałami w walce, zwłaszcza przy wykonywaniu różnych manewrów. Znaki były symbolem jedności oddziału i nienaruszalności porządku wojskowego.
I temu ostatniemu poświęcę teraz dwa słowa, gdyż byli to oficerowie godni uwagi.

" Miał czterdzieści pięć blizn na ciele, wszystkie na przodzie, lecz ani jednej z tyłu".
- Pliniusz, Historia Naturalna, 7.101

Hello!

In today's entry I to present You an auxiliary command of the Roman unit of the Auxiliary of the Empire period.
The group includes standard bearer- Signifer (characterized by his outfit, an essential element of the importance of the sacred was the skin of the animal: a lion, a bear or a wolf. In addition, the legions had her sign a cult, carried by a warrant officer, usually a sign of an eagle. There were also wolves, pigs , horses and minotaurs.
Signifer was easily recognizable imposed on open helmet skin of a wolf or other predator, with paws tied on the chest. These characters play a major role practical and symbolic allow easier maintenance of communication between departments in the fight, especially when performing various maneuvers. The signs were a symbol of unity and integrity branch of military order. The loss of a sign was disgrace for the soldiers. In the event of inevitable defeat ensign rescued mark, breaking for example
an eagle with a flagpole), Musician, described Optio, and Centurion. And about lost one now devote two words, because they were officers worthy of attention.

"He was forty-five scars on the body, all at the front, but no one behind"
- Plinius, Natural History, 7.101

Noteworthy are very bulky badges - for his courage, bravery and bloody wounds.

Centurion, from Latin. Centurio, it was in ancient Rome a lower officer, commander of the century - the smallest tactical unit of the legion, otherwise - the centurion, as centuria initially consisted of 100 soldiers (later much less).
In the days of the republic centurion they chose soldiers, and in times of empire had been nominated by the legate. Frequently centurions were left most experienced and meritorious soldiers in the legion. Centurions were also hierarchical, depending on which Centuria in the legion commanded. The main centurion of the legion was the commander of the century and cohort - the primus pilus or primipilus. Centuria commanded princeps II, III Centuria - Hastatus, IV Centuria - princeps posterior, V
Centuria - Hastatus posterior.
In fact, on centurionach during the battle rests the primary responsibility for the conduct of combat, since they directly attached to the intentions of command.

  1. Standardowo świetne malowanko i duża porcja historycznej wiedzy.

  7. Awesome looking Roman leaders. All battle-proven and worthy. I love the passage of the faith of the centurion in Luke 7.For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. "I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”"

A właściwie jak robisz poharatane tarcze? Pojedyncze pociągnięcia jaśniejszej farby?
