Guards of Traitor's Toll : City Guards inboxing (Grey For Now Games)

Hello friends!

Thanks to the kindness of Graham Davey (a Wargaming legend - I still have a lot of White Dwarf with You!) I received 5 plastic frames and a special model from his latest game - Guards of Traitor's Toll - to review and paint.

Guards of Traitor’s Toll is a forthcoming skirmish adventure game set in a fantasy city, written by Graham Davey (Test of Honour, 0200 Hours)

Patrol the streets, alleys and markets of Traitor’s Toll. Chase down and arrest the rogues, cheats and cutthroats that prey on the unwary, ensure the citizens don’t get too rebellious and uncover deeper plots that threaten the city…

The bustling city of Traitor’s Toll is home to a multitude of merchants and travellers, buskers and charlatans, sorcerers and scholars, not to mention – hidden among them – pickpockets, thieves, smugglers and worse!
The task of keeping the citizens safe, catching wrongdoers and dealing out justice falls to the city guard.

And today the first part of inboxing - City Guards!

  • The set consists of 12 miniatures - which can be assembled from a huge number of parts - heads in various helmets, open, with visors, heads without helmets, etc.
  • the same thing is with weapons - halberds, swords, two-handed swords, crossbows, bows, etc.
  • and finally, accessories - keys, chains, ropes, lanterns, torches. There is even... a goose!

Gameplay is semi-cooperative. Both players control a Guard Captain and patrol of 5 guardsmen (28mm scale), who must deal with the many challenges hidden among the crowds.
Such tasks might be capturing an escaped prisoner, battling a crazed wizard, locating a lost child, taking down a smuggling gang or investigating a mystery (Cityfolks next time of inboxing!!)

For now, I have assembled 9 Guards and the photos also show a comparison with other medieval-style models.

I invite!

  2. Ale fajne figurki Michał. Takie połączenie Frostgrave ze średniowieczem? Zwykłych cywilów też masz?

Do złożenia z 30 profesji roznych.

    1. Też ostatnio odchodzę od metalu nacdzecz plastiku j ewentualnie żywicy di wydruków 3d.
No ale taki zestaw do składania to super zabawa.

  6. It's an interesting looking game and I really like the figures and the look of the setting. But, man does one need a lot of pricey buildings and city terrain to be able to run it from what I've seen. Kind of turned me off

    1. Yes, terrain is probably the biggest challenge in skirmish games.
Although in fantasy like this the Middle Ages is still better than e.g....ancient Rome :)

  7. Figures are superb and the idea behind the game sounds interesting too but I also see Dai's point re lots of buildings!

Agreed - urban development, stalls and other obstructions must be mandatory :)

  9. Lovely pair of figures and the other models look good, to be fair you could , inexpensively download a load of Dave Graffen (?) paper buildings from Wargames vault and stick them on foamboard and have a decent playing area without breaking the bank?
    Best Iain

    1. And that's a great idea!
There doesn't seem to be any extensive 'inside the building' interactions - so paper terrains like that would be good!

Thanks Iain, I'll look into that more once I've finished painting the bands.

  12. I'm really trying to stay strong and not pick these up, Michal. But posts like this one aren't helping, LOL!! Really looking forward to seeing how these turn out with your tip-top paint skills. Doubtless you'll tempt me to pick up a set once I see some of your splendid paintjobs.
