Bolt Action: British: The 8th Army, Desert Rats

Witajcie!
Welcome!
Today, a few soldiers of the famous 8th
British Army from the period of the operations in North Africa.
Models remained me after painting (actually even their Completes :) Light Reconnaissance troops. And probably eventually there will be, as there are no plans in the near future expansion of British forces of "pure" 8 Military units. What else LRDG that I intend to expand on a few units and vehicles.

8th Army was one of the most famous British formations during World War II, fighting in North Africa and the Apennine Peninsula.
It was the British formation, always commanded by British officers, however, it was composed of units from all over the British Empire, as well as with countries which are under German occupation, mainly from the Polish and France.

Afryka Północna
8 Armia po raz pierwszy weszła do akcji w ramach operacji "Crusader", mającej na celu przerwanie frontu niemiecko-włoskiego i oswobodzenie załogi oblężonego Tobruku, kiedy to – 17 listopada 1941 roku – przekroczyła granicę egipsko-libijską i uderzyła na siły Afrika Korps Erwina Rommla.

26 listopada naczelny dowódca sił brytyjskich na Bliskim Wschodzie, generał Sir Claude Auchinleck, pozbawił dowództwa Cunninghama i zastąpił go generałem-majorem Neilem Ritchie.

Gott zginął w katastrofie lotniczej, gdy zmierzał do objęcia stanowiska i w ten sposób dowódcą armii został gen-por Bernard Law Montgomery. Alexander i Montgomery zdołali oprzeć się naciskom Churchilla i zwiększyli siłę armii, dodając do istniejących korpusów (XIII i XXX) silną formację pościgową, a mianowicie X Korpus.

North Africa
8 Army for the first time saw action as part of Operation "Crusader", aiming to break behind the German-Italian and freeing the crew of the besieged Tobruk, when - November 17, 1941 - that crossed the border into the Egyptian-Libyan and hit on the strength of the Afrika Korps of Erwin Rommel .

November 26 the supreme commander of the British forces in the Middle East, General Sir Claude Auchinleck, deprived of command Cunningham and was replaced by Major-General Neil Ritchie. Despite some tactical successes, Rommel was forced in late 1941 to the image of the siege of Tobruk and retreat to El Agheila. However, in February 1942, Rommel regrouped his forces and forced 8 Army to retreat to the defensive line at Gazala, just west of Tobruk. Both sides now joined forces to strengthen, but Rommel first took the initiative and forced the British to leave the position at Gazala.

Ritchie proved unable to halt Rommel was therefore canceled, and personally took command of the army of Auchinleck. Panzer Army Afrika was eventually stopped by Auchinleck in the battle of El Alamein. Auchinleck, intending to regroup 8th Army, too scattered in action against Rommel, came under strong pressure from Churchill, who demanded an immediate impact. It turned out soon that it is able to use his success of El Alamein, was so in August 1942 dismissed from the post of commander of forces in the Middle East and replaced by General Alexander, the commander of the 8th Army was the gene-por William Gott. Gott was killed in a plane crash while heading for the position, and thus the commander of the army was gene-por Bernard Montgomery. Alexander and Montgomery managed to resist the pressures of Churchill and the increased strength of the army, adding to existing bodies (XIII and XXX) strong formation Pursuit, namely the X Corps.

In early November 1942 years 8 Army defeated Rommel in the decisive second battle of El Alamein, and then started to chase on which are regarded Axis troops, reaching in February 1943 the German defenses on the border with Tunisia, where he took over operational command of the 18 Army Group. In March 8th Army defeated Mareth - together with 1 Army, operating in Tunisia since November 1942 - Axis forces in May forced them to surrender.

  3. Very cool - great tribute to a famous unit. Will you be adding any vehicles? Someday I'd like to do a Matilda - I had the 1/35th Tamiya kit when I was a kit. What an odd tank :)
