Defenders of the Crown: Jan Skrzetuski, Polish XVII c. noble (With Fire and Sword ) (Anno Domini 1666)

Welcome!

The first hero known from the pages of Sienkiewicz's novel and from the movie by Jerzy Hoffman, played (quite well for me!) by polish actor  Michał Żebrowski today.

Jan Skrzetuski, Jastrzębiec coat of arms.
He was a governor (later a lieutenant, and in the epilogue of "Pan Wołodyjowski"novel is mentioned as a colonel) of the armored banner of prince Jeremy Wiśniowiecki.
A favorite and supporter of the prince, recognizing in him the highest military and political authority. He accidentally saved from the hands of the robbers Bohdan Chmielnicki, the future Cossack ataman (he did not know who he was helping).
Later he fell in love with Helena Kurcewiczówna, asked her guardians (Kniahinia Kurcewiczowa) for her hand.Competed with the Cossack Bohun for Helena.
Jan Skrzetuski was a hero from Zbaraż. Thanks to his courage, the king was informed about the tragic situation of the defenders of the fortress.

The hero of  With Fire and Sword novel is the ideal of a knight, a Christian, for the service of God and country and honorable values were more valuable than life. In their name, he was ready to sacrifice his private life, minimizing the importance of his own dramas in the face of the tragedy of the Polish kingdom.

The nobleman appears as a supporting character in The Deluge, the second part of the Sienkiewicz Trilogy. He also appears in the episode of the third part, Pan Wołodyjowski.

Прикончу поляков, потом несколько запорожских казаков и, может быть, возьму на себя шведов.
