War of Independence 1775 –1783: Indian Sachem (Muskets & Tomahawks) (The Silver Bayonet)

Hello!

Today another hero from the M&T line from  North Star Military Figure

Sachems (and sagamores) are paramount chiefs among the Algonquians or other Native American tribes of northeastern North America, including the Iroquois.

The two words are anglicizations of cognate terms (c. 1622) from different Eastern Algonquian languages. Some sources indicate the sagamore was a lesser chief elected by a single band, while the sachem was the head or representative elected by a tribe or group of bands.

Others suggest the two terms were interchangeable.

The positions are elective, not hereditary. Although not strictly hereditary the title of Sachem is often passed through the equivalent of tanistry.

  2. Terrific work, Michal, especially the cold-blooded killer look in the native's eyes. I would not like to be on the wrong side of that stare.

    1. Dziękuję bardzo! Moim błędem było oglądanie w zbyt młodym wieku Ostatniego Mohikanina -do dziś się boję Indian w malowaniu rytualno bitewnym.
