Early Imperial Roman Vexillarius (VICTRIX LTD)

I warmly welcome!

Another entry related to the period of the Early Roman Empire today.
I have painted another soldier for my Auxiliaries for this purpose. This is Vexillarius, one of the Signiferi in the Roman legion.

His task was to carry a vexillum (plural vexilla), a military banner most often depicting the name and emblem of the legion.
The banner consisted of a fabric hanging on the crossbar of a lance or a stick.
It was used both in infantry and in cavalry.

Signifer Auxiliares, i.e. auxiliary troops, put on a bear skin, but without the mouth, as you can see on the model.

Witam serdecznie!

  6. Beautiful work on these guys Michal. but whatever a sergeant was called in Latin, he would be giving these guys some "enhanced guidance" about the use of a razor!

    1. Haha yes! Though these barbarian auxiliary troops are somewhat unshaven.
And a few days of wandering around Germania does its job ...
